The ferry between Duke Point and Tsawwassen was delayed on Sunday evening after a driver using their phone crashed while off-loading, according to RCMP.
Nanaimo RCMP says the driver was getting off the ferry at the Duke Point terminal, while using their phone, and crashed into a column on the lower ramp.
The driver sustained minor injuries but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The driver has been issued a ticket for using an electronic device and their vehicle was towed.
Nanaimo RCMP says the air bags were deployed and the vehicle sustained “significant front end damage.”
BC Ferries says the Duke Point to Tsawwassen ferry was delayed for 36 inutes due to the incident.

ICBC says distracted driving is a factor in crashes resulting in an average of 79 deaths and 5,197 injuries each year.
“If you’re looking at your phone, you can’t see the road,” ICBC says.
“Even when stopped, checking an electronic device affects your focus. You’re 3.6 times more likely to crash if you’re using your hand-held phone.”
